Tell us about your business, and what makes it special to you?
Muments is the community for mothers who want to nurture, inspire and reconnect with themselves. We believe if we take care of ourselves we can take better care of our families. Our family is only as healthy as we are. Being a mum is hard work. We need time and space to replenish ourselves. Self-care fills us with rejuvenating energy that benefits not only ourselves, but also our little ones. Because a happy Mum is the engine of a happy family.
Tell us about the defining moment that propelled you to start your business, or follow your dreams.
It all started in a cafe with two friends and two strollers. Prior to the birth of my first child in 2016, I worked for 10 years as a corporate events and sponsorship planner. As a family we planned and saved so that I could spend the first year at home with our son. What I had not planned on, however, was that by choosing to devote myself entirely to my baby son, I would say goodbye to myself. I lost touch with my pre-baby self and prioritized my son’s well-being above my own. As much as I loved my baby, I was exhausted and desperately missed having time for myself. One afternoon, talking with other Mum friends about our new lives as mothers of young infants, we discovered that motherhood was taking the same toll on us. They were struggling just like I was. We decided that surely there was a better way.
If there was no easy way for us to take care of ourselves, to find time to recharge, but still have our babies nearby, then we had to create it. This is how, in 2018, our Muments Mornings events began at baby-friendly cafes around Barcelona: Meetings of new mothers sharing breakfast, a little pampering and learning simple tricks to improve their well-being. Over time, as children grew older and mums’ needs changed, Muments grew alongside, creating a nourishing collection of services, events, and offerings to take care of mothers at all stages of motherhood. In 2020 we launched our free online community, to give Mums our wellness-inspiring content whenever and wherever they need it most.
What problem is your business solving? Why is this personal to you?
Motherhood has taught us that if we are not well, neither are our children... Because our families don't need "super-mums": They need happy mums and this is what we aim to do, help you become the best version of yourself, feel nourished, inspired and find your tribe in our community. Muments is a very international community with Mums from different countries taking part and collaborating with us.
Tell us how you stay inspired as an entrepreneur.
I believe in the power of joining communities of other women entrepreneurs to learn and feel the support and keep up the good spirit and receive the support we also need as entrepreneurs. It can be a very lonely journey too so communities of like minded women are super important. I'm also passionate about creating unforgettable event experiences. I love seeing how happy and recharged Mums come out of our events and meet ups, after dedicating time to themselves. Lastly it has to be connecting with other inspiring Mums and interviewing them via our IG lives so we are all constantly learning from each other too.
Tell us about a defining career milestone or job that impacted your personal trajectory.
I was promoted to commercial development director at a very early stage of my events career to handle the commercial success of the World Magazine Congress in London. Having this level of responsibility at such a young age taught me that age is only a number, if you really want something to happen you just have to believe in yourself and work hard to make it happen.
Tell us about a woman who inspired you.
I find inspiration from every woman around me. We all have our unique gift and we can use it to serve and encourage others. I love mothers who have found motherhood enhances them as women instead of the opposite. Also all the women who understand that whatever life throws at us if we look after physical and emotional well being we will most likely raise a happier and healthier generation and help heal the world! Yes, we have that much power Mums! ;)
Do you feel you've mastered work/life balance? What could be improved or what would you like to work on?
Thanks to my own project I have learned that perfection doesn't exist and it shouldn't. It's all about doing the best we can and accepting once and for all that our family needs happy mums not super mums. Leading my life this way has kept me from frustration for not achieving everything I set myself to do in a day. Instead I modify my to do list down to 1 very important task to complete per day and then advance a little on the rest. I also included 20 minute yoga sessions as part of my daily routine and now it's impossible to miss a session. I try and fit these in before my son wakes up so I can enjoy the stillness and silence of the early mornings. But the most important thing is to do it, because when I do, I feel balanced and happy.
How do you release and unwind?
I'm the queen of MUMENTS, I'm joking! I release by doing yoga, having dinner with my husband, friends or simply just having quality time with my family.
What's the next big step for your business?
We’re launching the English version of our website this month along with a number of new virtual events. You can find the schedule on Instagram and the website.
Is there a quote/mantra that guides you?
I have two.
"Self-care is giving the world the best of you instead of whats left of you"
"If you don't make time for your wellness you will be forced to make time for your illness."
